coil spring question

I read that stock coil springs on an xj are tested at 120lbs. I have a set of coil springs for a 6 1/2 in lift that I want to cut down for about a 3 1/2 to 4 inch lift that have a rating of 260lbs. Stock, uncompressed xj springs measure 16 1/4" while these new springs measure 23". With the difference in pounds of pressure, how can I figure out how much to cut off, rather than cutting inch by inch until i get it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think OME makes a HD spring with that spring rate and lift... I would search all angles before i started cutting on my coils. JMO.

As you cut the spring, the spring rate goes up!

Pretty much anywhere that sells suspension...RE, RK, Claytons, Deaver, etc etc.

You can also probably find someone in your local chapter's for sale section that would be willing to trade some 3.5-4" springs for your 6.5" springs.

Just calc out the desired spring rate you are looking for...
