Yes, this is interesting. I picked up a compressor for $12 at my local pull-a-part yesterday. Sure beats giving up AC and for very little money. Also, there is no hassle with figuring out how to keep the AC compressor oiled.
 
He could have just bought a pair of Truck Air compressors from K-Mart instead. I can't imagine they push a whole lot of air, probably 10+ minutes a tire to air up. Somewhat interesting. For that matter he could have modified a junkyard A/C compressor for less.

I didn't want to give up my air either so some friends and I made a mounting bracket, battery tray, and relocation bracket for the A/C receiver/drier. It runs off a longer serp belt. I can air up tires quick now but I just need to make an air tank and finish plumbing stuff.
