Why is my cruise control starting to act funny?

Hey guys. '91 XJ. So here are the symptoms:

- push button has begun working sporadically
- sometimes works, sometimes doesn't
- reset/accellerate always works
- wiring in stalk repaired a year ago
- no obvious leaks in vacuum lines
- HVAC works fine

My guess is the push button might be dying. Any other thoughts?

Is it possible to take apart and repair the button?

The brake light switch has a set of contacts that causes the cruise control to disengage when the pedal is pushed. If the contacts fail, the cruise control will not engage.
Both my 2001 and 1997 XJs have had bad brake light switches that caused the cruise control not to work. My wife's Subaru had the same issue.
