Here's the symptoms..FIRE... what is the cause?

Loss of power.... replaced plugs and wires last night and problem solved ... or so I thougt. Drove to UNF today ran great til I left the trail. Los of power again then 20 minutes into my drive home.... CARPET FIRE behind the passenger seat. My flowmaster had heated up so hot that it burnt through the floor board and ingnited my carpet.

What in the hell could cause this?

More than likely the insides of the cat have crumbled. You will have periods of power loss when the parts align themselves to the point where they restrict the exhaust flow. This can also cause the CAT to get REAL hot.

Seen it happen twice. Bad CAT in each situation.

Seems to me, your muffler got too hot.
