The National Park Service (NPS) will stop taking comments on the Denali
National Park Backcountry Management Plan on Friday, May 30, 2003. You can
submit comments today by sending them to [email protected].
ARRA needs your help in supporting Alternative D, the NPS preferred
alternative, which will increase recreational opportunities significantly
in many areas of the park. This alternative will provide expanded access
for snowmobiles in roughly 2/3 of the park, while maintaining the core
wilderness area of the park as a non-motorized area. ARRA sees this as a
healthy and necessary compromise that will suit the needs of both the
motorized and non-motorized recreation communities.
As significant opposition to this alternative is being generated by
anti-access environmental organizations, it is essential that ARRA members
help to ensure that the voice of responsible recreationists is also
considered.
