well it was time to prime the oil pump in my rebuilt 4.0, its a 97.
the shaft was able to spin freely when i started.
i turned the pump with a drill for about a minute or two and my gauge read about 80 psi.
i stopped and the drill stopped abruptly.
i can no longer spin the shaft by hand in either direction.
it seems to have seized, it will turn with the drill but its a work out for even the drill to spin it.

has anyone had this problem?

The pump shaft will be more difficult to turn when it's pumping oil. When I put my engine in with my new Weller high volume pump it loaded the drill pretty hard when pumping. (No I didn't try to turn it by hand). Everything worked fine afterwards.

I vote run it and watch the pressure for the first five minutes.

normal, mine did this as well, I was very suprised how long it took to prime!

no , I always run a mechanical gauge when I install a fresh motor, just puts me at ease

Your good to go. If you crack the oil filter loose a little they will pick up prime quicker. Be quick or its messy :D.
