Crank shaft sensor magnetic or not?

Hi,
I have a 2000 sport with 200k and I am in the process of changing the crank shaft sensor. My old one is magnetic at the nose/end but my new one has no magnetic force going on. Maybe its not an unused open box NAPA afterall.

So without that magnetic force its junk right? Its not something that needs to be powered first to become magnetic correct?

Thanks

Just when I got my revenge list cleared, along comes another pay back.

I've got 2 NIB 2000 Mopar units right here and they are magnetic.

Yes and I've worked with 5 providers now to source an after market high quality neodymium sensor and none of them have a strong enough magnet.
