What to Look For If One Were Buying a TJ Rubicon

A friend of mine wants to build his stock TJ a bit. By the time you price a replacement rear axle to get rid of the Turdy Five, with something geeared and locked, then regear and lock the front, it starts to seem you could just buy a TJ Rubi and be done with it. Of course, I told him $6K and his TJ, and we could build a sweet XJ, But, his wife likes the Barbie Jeep over the Soccer mom Jeep.

If he were to buy a Rubi, whether it be a TJ or an earlier JK, what things specific to those models should he be watching out for? Engine, trans combos, years to avoid, etc.

Avoid someone else’s messy project.

Ps all LJs from 04-06 had a 44 rear axle with discs as well as all sport model TJs i think had d44 rears. If you can find one affordable.

I’d sell my 04 LJ with 81k, 35s, locked with zip lockers for 15k.

mac ‘03-06 TJ rubicons should be good to go’ gyvr
