There are past reports, way back, about towing with the rear driveshaft in place (front on dolly). The claim was that the 231 lacks a true neutral, so the rear wheels/driveshaft turn tcase innards if connected. The story goes that the tcase doesn't self-lubricate when run this way, and something gets damaged (can't remember what). Pulling the rear driveshaft is the way to go. You will loose some lube from the rear of the tcase if its an earlier 231, so be aware you need to either tape/seal a cut-off plastic pop bottle on there, a rag, or ? and top-up the tcase after. Anybody got more info than my memory holds? 4xBob
