Hey all,

Just bought a 1994 XJ to replace my rolled 1990 trailrig. I have a 4x4 aw4 in storage that came out of a HO, but it doesn not have a transfer case.

Can i use the 1990 AW4 in the 1994 jeep?

i know it is 21 spline vs 23 spline, but it will take me a minute to locate a transfer case again (sold the spare) and then i would have to swap the SYE as well

Swapping the bellhousing for the crank sensor along with a compatible t-case and it should work.

It should bolt right up. I believe it should work with the 1994 trans computer. I think the wiring harness connectors are the same, but if they are not, you can drop the pan and swap the wiring harness over. I don't know exactly when the rear output shaft sensor changed from a magnetic relay switch to the hall effect sensor (I think that was in 98). If you find it doesn't want to upshift at all after the swap, you'll need to swap the sensors between the old and new tranny.

I'm not sure I understand MJRs comment about swapping the bell-housing. They should be identical, although you do have to use the 1994 CPS sensor with the 1994 engine computer.

i am trying to do somethig very similar, however a little different.... i am trying to use the 90 auto trans/transfer to a 94 motor that had an ax15 2wd. i am having a heck of a time getting info on the flexplate. everywhere i look at flywheel/flexplate part# i am only finding 1 part#. the flywheel for the 94 motor has no way to mount the torque converter. please help...

When looking for parts, try searching for "drive plate". Flywheel usually implies a manual and clutch setup. As you implied, you must use the driveplate for a 94 as the sensor teeth are different on the 90. My parts diagram shows Chrysler part number 52117761. http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com has it for $98 and says it fits 1992-2000. Oddly, the parts diagram shows a different part number for a 96 which doesn't lookup at all on chryslerpartsdirect.

Or a little cheaper:
$54 http://www.tellico4x4.com/product_info.php/products_id/24765
$62 http://www.cyberjeep.com/prodinfo.asp?number=52117761
$65 http://www.lacasadeljeeppr.com/1991-00-4-0-cherokee-flex-plate-part-num-52117761-flex-plates-p3735.html
