Re: Engine smokes

assuming you mean smoke from under the jeep, sounds like a rear main seal leak hitting the front pipe where it crosses the transmission bell housing.

Re: Engine smokes

Nope, comes out the exhaust, there is no oil leaking on the ground.

Also, my exhaust runs down the drivers side of the heep.

Re: Engine smokes

high engine vacuum can suck oil past worn rings and valve guides, right into the combustion chamber.

is it smoking the worst when you coast downhill?

Re: Engine smokes

Under compression braking.

I take that back it could also be doing it when accelerating down hill.

Re: Engine smokes

if you're burning like 1 quart a week, the old-time solution is thicker viscosity oil.

try 50 weight, its summer anyhow.
I tried this on my first engine, it helped a little.
Does lower your gas mileage slightly.

She's a trailer queen, I did change the oil and add a quart of lucas stabilizer. I think it did help a little.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before.

Re: Engine smokes

Smoke at high vacuum such as at an idle when hot means bad valve guides/seals. It is even worse going down hill under compression braking.

If it smokes under load, that means shot rings.

Re: Engine smokes

How many miles on this engine? If it were mine, I'd perform a compression test and or leakdown (even better). I agree with old man here....
