Power steering line upgrade

Awhile ago I had to change a leaking pressure hose and the Napa line didn't quite fit correctly. Had to add a bit of bend to get it to line up to the port.

A few months ago we were out snow wheeling and the pressure line blew out of the metal crimp.

So we bent and broke off the failed end:

And then cut the lower pressure hose, slipped it over this end and hose clamped it down. This kept the pump from burning up while heading back to the house.

So I decided to redo the steering hoses as I had planned for the the last six months or so. I used field serviceable fittings from the local CAT Dealer and remade the high pressure line.

I had fittings already for the Box that converted the o-ring factory seal to JIC/AN fittings.

The new pressure hose, Long 90 on the pump side and a swept 45 on the box side.

And all the hoses assembled and in.

The return power steering hose broke off the fitting on the stock reservoir but luckily I had another one in the shop. The fitting on the pressure pump side fits right where the stock hoses went over the top, clears the cap easily. The lower return line I did have to space up the fittings to clear the radiator hose. I used a straight -6 to -6 swivel and a long 90 pushlock and got enough clearance. I also installed a filter I picked up from Napa on the return line.

The box fitting adapters are 18mm-1.5 IFM to -6 AN & 16mm-1.5 IFM to -6 AN. The pump adapter is the same 16mm-1.5 IFM to -6 AN.

Got mine from Speedway. Part #6174808 and #6174806.

CAT Part numbers:
45* -6 JIC: 6174806
90* -6 Short: 068-0009
90* -6 Long: 032-4872
-6 Straight Swivel: 001-6286
-6 Hose: 9X-2364

GREAT job!! After struggling to get an OE replacement High Pressure Power Steering line installed this weekend I know what a pain in the butt getting the Top/Lower connections to line up and install w/out stripping or cross-threading is. Not too mention going over/under the hoses on the lower connection area of the steering wrack. Ugh!! Your setup looks nice and clean!!

I'm pretty sure that filter is backwards.

nice. had the pleasure of replacing a steering gear last time out. realized those hoses are not serviceable and could leave you stranded if you can't find a replacement.
