Newbie here. Did try searching and did as many Cruise 54 checks as possible.

1989-XJ.

Performed Engine swap. Starts, idles very nice. Crack the throttle and it falls apart. Shaking, miss firing, popping (back fire maybe).

Grounds refreshed at dip stick,
CPS checks out good, (can only check resistance with current meter)
Coil checks out good
TPS voltage correct,
Map sensor voltage good.

Please help

Sorry, I should have put that also. Have a gauge on it. Fuel pressure is in range.

Thank you for the suggestion

Thank you, grounds look good.

But, looking around some, I do have the distributor off a little. I went old skool and have rotor pointing right t #1 cylinder post. Reading up on this, its supposed to be just passing.

Hoping this helps. Not sure how retarded 1 tooth is. But I know its off.

Follow up in case someone stumbles across this. Distributor clocking fixed issue. jeep runs great.

Symptom:
Started right up.
idled fairly smooth.
Crack the throttle. Popping, shaking etc.
Black sooty plugs.
