Rear hatch latch assembly swap?

88 with the post for the latch assembly to close onto. It rattles like crazy and even opened on the freeway once. I could swap in a better post with less of a groove or a latch assembly same as is on there now. But after seeing a newer style one with a handle versus a button to open(97+?), is it possible to swap to that style? Is it more secure or less rattling problems? With the fiberglass hatch, modifying the hatch for size would be easy, but the part on the body it attaches to? Or different sizes? Or attachment points in the hatch or body?

If you asking can a steel hatch be swapped for the fiberglass hatch, or visa versa, the answer is no. The hatch openings and the hinge mounting points are totally different. If you are asking can the latch assemblies swap between steel and fiberglass, the answer is still no.

Yeah just the latch assembly. I’ve never held both up to compare the size or shape.
