crank free play? please help

I just noticed that when I grab my harmonic balancer and rotate it by hand I have a little bit of free play turning it either direction before it hits and then you can feel compression.
Is this normal? I does it wether I turn the balancer itself or the balancer bolt. You can hear it kind of 'clunk' when it hits and then u go the other direction and 'clunk' before the compression. Motor runs great, good oil pressure, although it does have a very slight knock from the oil pan or bell housing area maybe..

That slight knock would concern me. Is it more in the motor or is it farther back?

Sound is coming from oil pan like rods. It's wierd cuz I only have 150k on it

I'm now starting to think it's timing gear play.

What makes you think that? Did you check to make sure the TQ bolts are tight? It can sound like a little clunk or a wicked rod knock.

The noise goes away as it warms up
