Replacing all a/c parts on 1991 Cherokee. On the out side of the a/c drier , there is a fitting or device with springs and o rings inside it. Made of brass 3 sections. What is it called, can it be replaced, what does it do? I may be able to clean it but the inside springs are rusty and stiff. 134 system. Any help appreciated.

No. it is brass, in 3 parts and is attached to the dryer not the evaporator. It looks to be some sort of pressure regulator. I did find a utube that the owner removed the guts and used the fitting as just an adapter. It also may need to be there when using R12. Still looking.

Info found. It is a quick disconnect and valve that in the r12 days allowed you to remove without losing all coolant. Jeep air has a solution new dryer and custom hose.
