Job: Replacing the transmission mount in the cross member.



Lining up the holes and bolts was not as easy as expected and one of the things I did was jack the transmission a titch more and when I did there was a loud bang like something broke. I looked everywhere with good light but could not find anything broken. I was expecting to find a bolt head or a half bolt hole for the trans housing, broken motor mount, or something, but nothing. The transmission works and I can drive the Jeep.



Any thought on what the source of the noise may have been?

Did you rip a motor mount bushing out of the rubber? The stock design is terrible and IMO should not be used no matter who makes it.

I you raised it a lot, it might have been the exhaust? Possibly the flange at the header.

The motor mounts look good.

I didn't think to check the exhaust at the down pipe or header. I'm having the axle assemblies remanned now but I'll take a look when the the XJ back and I'll post how it looks.

Did you check the radiator fan shroud . lifting the trans would move the fan and it can hit something .
