X2.....I ran a good portion of it several years ago. Do a little research on the historical points along the trail and enjoy:). You might want to check out Afton Canyon as well but, definitely wait till it cools down a bit......it can get really hot out there!----------Hans

I've run it .. alot. Traditionally every year for thanksgiving, but its not happening this year as I'm going to visit family back east.

get a couple of books on it, read them more than once. Pick the highlights you want to see in advance and plan your camping around them. It gets cold, pack warm. Warmer than that, its really cold. Sometimes you see people all day, but I've run the trail end to end and not seen a soul, so go prepared.

Its easy to get moving really fast, and it feels fun. Shit comes out of nowhere and takes you out, so keep your speed down.. sudden washes, near invisible bumps in the road, etc.. no one is going to drive up with a spare trackbar.

Take 3-5 rigs for the 'best' trip. More than that becomes a hassle, less than that isnt particularly a good idea unless both drivers have solid rigs and know the trail.

There's a lot of history, scenary too if you're into that. There's some bomber wash runs and and good whoop sections. Nothing technical a VW Thing couldn't handle. Cal's right, go with another rig or two in case something happens.

I have camped at Afton Canyon for years. Wheeled it first time back in May. There is a lot of historical stuff. Old mine car roads, caves, and mine shafts. I think you can get a book on where some of the caves are. If i remember right ropes are set up on some of the big walls in the caves. take head lamps for all and if you want hard hats for the kids. I have smacked my head in those caves once or twice.

A couple of friends and myself have been talking about doing Mohave trail this winter, I have heard that there is some good side trails along the way.

If you really want to go, wait until spring. It won't be as cold at night, and the plantlife will be *booming*.

Oh, and in spring I might tag along. :)

I've always wanted to run this one.... Cal any links to the books?

Very cool stuff, thanks guys for the info, im gonna get a book and look more into it the historical side of it.

Yep, good book. Back in March I did this run. I actually stood in the spot where that picture on the ocver was taken. If you like scenery and history, this is a great run. If you want technical or rock crawling, not the place. BTW, when we went in March, we actually got snowed on.

If you want to check out my pics, they are here... http://gallery.lisaandmike.org/mojaveroad

Nice pics.

Craig, I would be down to go. Let's set a time and I can get some books for my son to read. I think he would dig this and its a good history lesson while at it.
