8.8 from T-Bird

Most of the later 80's Ford Thunderbirds came with 8.8 rear ends with disc brakes. My dad's does I know, but I was wondering if these would work ok on an XJ? I know that the springs are under the axle so I'd have to cut those off and weld perches on the top, but would the width be ok? I know of a few T-Birds that I could get one from, so I'm just curious. THanks

are you sure it is not a 7.5" i heard that is what's under most ford cars. i would check the tag if i were you, they look almost the same.
just a thought, correct me if i am wrong

I'm sure. Some may've had 7.5's but alot of the 87-88 Turbo's had 8.8.

I used a 8.8 from a 89 lincoln mark VII, works great, is the right width, disc brakes, right bolt pattern too.

I believe the Lincoln's and the T-Birds are close to the same...Hmm I wonder if my dad would care if i borrowed the rear end outta his 88. lol
