Help me find 4th gear!

Instead of boring you with a long post, I figured I'd try something different to solicit help for my misbehaving transmission.

Year: 1997
Trans: AW4
Fluid: Dexron VI replaced w/filter 10k miles ago
Symptoms: Works fine for 20 minutes. After 4th gear rarely engages. Even going down hill it will not upshift shift. TC also stops locking.
Codes: None currently, but in the past has:
  • P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
  • P0304: Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
  • P0306: Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
  • P0700: Powertrain - Transmission Control System MIL request
  • P1898: Powertrain
Troubleshooting:

  • Unplugged TCM & can shift manually
  • TCM test

Code:
Function PIN	PIN	Selector Spec Result
Ground 24	Ground	P	<1 Ω <1 Ω
CCD Bus (-) 6	7	P	60 Ω 60 Ω
TC Lock Solenoid 11	24	P	11-15 Ω 13 Ω
Solenoid A 12	24	P	11-15 Ω 13 Ω
Solenoid B 13	24	P	11-15 Ω 13 Ω
IOD Fuse 25	24	P 11.09v
Ign Switch output 26	24	P 11.09v
Gear Sel R Input 18	24	R 10.07v
Gear Sel D Input 22	24	D 11.09v
Gear Sel 3 Input 9	24	3 11.09v
Gear Sel 1-2 Input 21	24	1-2 11.09v
TPS input 17	16	P, Idle	.26-.95v	.82v
TPS input 17	16	P, WOT	<4.49v 1.6v
CCD Bus (-) 6	24	P	2.51v 2.36v
CCD Bus (+) 7	24	P	2.49v 2.36v

Attempted Repairs:
  • TPS replaced
  • TV cable adjusted

Theory: I have one, but I want to get unbiased opinions first.

Is that chart showing the TPS at 1.6v at WOT? I'd check the TPS wiring since you've already replaced the sensor.
Whoops! I meant to delete that row. That was before I replaced the TPS. I suppose I should go and check that voltage again.

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I'm having a similar issue with my '00 xj. These are my codes,

P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0302: Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0740: Torque Converter Clutch Circuit

I've also tried adjusting the TV cable multiple times and multiple different ways. My aw4 doesn't slip, it shifts beautifully. I've messed around with the brake pedal switch and it seems to be in working condition. My jeep drives 70mph @ 2300 rpm.

I am bringing my old thread back up again. The Jeep still loses 4th when it gets hot and 3rd when it gets really hot.

I replaced the transmission solenoids, but no joy.

I cleaned NSS, but no joy.

I just ordered a new NSS. Hopefully that will do it.

Neither shift solenoid is engaged for 4th gear, so I doubt this is a solenoid problem. Did you test the NSS with a meter? That seems unlikely to be heat dependent.
