Rear wiper with lock button???

My 97 has an unusual problem that hopefully one of you has encountered. Today I noticed my power locks won't work; they just buzz when I hit the "lock" position with the switch. The weird part is that when I hit "unlock" the damn rear wiper activates for one swipe. I also have noticed lately a slow crank, even though my battery isn't very old. Lock acts weird whether running at 14v or not running. Any common places to start looking? Thanks

After thinking about it I answered my own question. There must be a short in the rear hatch harness; thats the only place the lock signal would meet the wiper....

Wire harness failures in the drivers door and the tail gate hatch are very common. Start a visual inspection in and near the rubber boots at the hinges and perform a continuity test.
