vacuum disconnect???

i just pulled the front diff/axle out of the jeep i just bought. its a 91 limited with ABS and the 242 transfer case. i noticed that it looks to have the same vacuum disconnect motor unit as part of the axle as my old 88 xj did. but on this one there is no wires or vac lines attached to it. what is the deal with that? did jeep just make all the front ends with the vac disco unit and only hook up some? or did the guy i bought it from swap in a new diff that had the vac disco?

Might be a new front axle, as the 242-equipped XJs were non-disconnect.

no pics, i just took both duffs in to get 4.56 gears put in. i'm going to assume your right and that the previouse owner needed a new front axle so he just found a used one and it just happened to be a disconnect. also this jeep has ABS but the front axle doesn't, so it must be recently swapped.
