No ground on starter relay

89 Jeep, Renix wiring. I have 12 volts coming from the ignition switch when I turn it to the start position. I have no ground so the relay is not kicking down to run the starter. When a run a wire from the g terminal on the relay directly to the battery negative, then turn the key, the engine cranks over.

Where does the black/white ground wire run to from the starter relay? Does it run to the ECU eventually? I do not have a wiring diagram.

The other problem is that I have no spark when I crank it. Could that be a related problem?

IIRC that is the wire that goes to the neutral safety switch on the automatic tranny.
