axle swap difficulty

if its out of a standard wagoneer itll be a little narrower, but if its out of a grand waggy theyll be pretty close to stock width.

the people who say LP is weaker 99 percent of the time are just following the crowd, and its completely a myth.

the yokes will be stock size, and accept 1310 u-joints. the rear will be easy. just throw on a set of spring perches, and shock mounts and your good to go

the fronts a little more difficult. but with enough time and money its easily done. i went with a TNT truss/mount system which made life very easy. its the same price as rubicon express mount system, except its all 1 piece. you just set it on top of the axle, set your pinion angle and weld it home

Im running 38s on an 8.8, and grand waggy front 44, and beat the snot out of it with no problems to date. i know im pushing my luck on stock shafts, spool, and 38s, but it hasn't let me down yet. but i will be putting alloys, and longfield joints in it this summer

heres a few pics of how i did my front

i have a lot of other work to do i was just wondering.. i can get a grand waggy for free and it has an amc 360 and the d44s what do you think i can get for it?

I hate to revive an old thread, but suggestions on using a 44 combo PS drop for the swap??? I know I will have to flip the TC, but more suggestions??:lickout:

Why is it "following the crowd" when its true? HP is stronger in a front application, and lp is stronger in a rear application when going forward.

Personally I would try and find drivers side drop axle, unless you are willing to do a bit of body work as well and exhaust work to get it to work. I seem to recall Vetteboy pretty much redoing all of his floor when he did his passenger side 60. Sure its possible, but is it worth it:dunno:

You dont have to flip the transfercase if you get a drivers side drop axle.
He asked about a passenger side drop axle, so yes, yes you do. :twak:

yes...it may be true that they are technically weaker.

but sometimes you have to have a little real testing done and not rely on the numbers to do the talking.

of all the axles ive seen fail, its been pretty split from HP and LP up front, and im not sure what size tires hes planning to run but ive still not had a problem with my 44 and 38s. i worry about the shafts far more when im wheeling then the ring and pinion, so saying if its an LP axle it isn't worth your time is a very open ended statement.

for a 44 build, i wouldn't say that going to a dana 300 and clocking the drivetrain would be worth it. but if you can find a cheap enough chevy 60, then why not. by the time your rigs gone that far anyways your probably looking to do something with the t-case

spawn93. im not really following your question. but if your asking if a PS drop pitman arm will work with the stock PS box then yes...it bolts right on. its actually what im running on my junk right now

I was talking about a Passenger side drop axle from an older J10 but now that I know it is a PITA, I may buy the truck and reinstall the bed and wheel it as well......
