Crankshaft position sensor 95 vs 97

Having problems getting a spark on my 95 xj 4litre.
I am suspecting it’s the crankshaft position sensor. I have a new CPS sensor but is meant for the 97 model, the sensor looks just like the 95 one but with a different connector.
Can I cut off the connector on the new 97CPS sensor and attach the 95 harness to it? Or are there any other differences between the sensors.?

Good question. I don't have the answer but FWIW. The sensor I bought for my 96, which was 96 model, did not fit. A 97 model had the correct connection and has worked fine since.
