Breather Filters

Upon re doing my breathers on transfer case and differentials, I am thinking to keep dust out, to place a fuel filter on the end of each breather hose. Something like this...

http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Univers...1-261-275a.htm

Is the a sound idea, or poorly conceived, ie likely to not breathe well, and thus cause a axle or shaft seal leak?

Opinions?

Thanks!
