Play in Transfercase Output Shaft

I was about to install my new rear driveshaft from Adam's Offroad when I noticed play in the output shaft of my NP231 transfer case. You can push and pull it in and out about 1/2". Much like this video below. Except I pulled the case apart and found nothing out of the ordinary (to my eye anyway). All of the snap rings were in tact and where they are supposed to be. I have an Advance Adapters SYE installed.

Is it normal to have this much play in the main shaft? What is supposed to stop the shaft from moving back and forth like it does?
