Vacuum testing HVAC system

Hey guys, I have an 01 Classic and I can't get the AC or heat to change positions by turning the dial. I have the dash mostly out where I can see the actuators behind the radio and nothing moves at all when I turn the HVAC knob. I checked the valve at the firewall and don't see any breaks in the lines.

Does anyone know how to test the system to figure out where it isn't working?

There is probably a leak in the system somewhere. I would start at the vacuum canister first. A vacuum pump and gauge will be a great asset.

You have one it's shaped lile a ball. It's under the right front bumper/fender.

I plugged the line off to the canister, and I think I have most of the functionality of the switch working but there is a position or two that nothing happens. Does anyone know how the actuators are supposed to be positioned for each switch position?
