My jeep build with photos over the last few years.

We had it in July. It was like having a cold. I am completely done with caring about it.

Remember back in March of 2020 when they said just sit still for 2 weeks and we will have this licked? Yeah right. Going on 2 years now.

Remember when they said "The vaccine is the thing!"? Yeah right. First one needle. Then two. Now three. And Delta is kicking the vaccine's butt.

Hmm.

Conclusions could be drawn. But one would have to employ one's own mind. And of course then you would be in violation of the new religion.

Evan, just be glad you are not in Kali. At least here there is a vestige of reason.

I am tempted to provide some alternative perspective on COVID, but no point in potentially going way OT on a great build thread.

Evan03, fantastic scenery. I am surprised to see horses apparently roaming a very large area. Wild horses?

Those are simplot ranch horses theyre babies will eventually be used by cowboys. There are also wild horses in the area along with big horn sheep dear elk aciosanal lost moose. Idaho is still wild, the government can't even contain us.

Anak they will string this out as long as they possibly can then create something else to keep them in control of people.

This is the little Jack's, Big Jack's and wichahoney, duncan canyons wilderness area. Scott hasn't seen these canyons so were exploring haven't been to the good stuff yet.

I don't mind off topic stuff

Sucks you live so far.. I'm so tempted to rip the bushwhacker shiz off and just look like a lot of xjs with cut fenders.... then I see your fenders and remember how bad I want to do it right and twist up some tube.

When's the cage start?? Internal exo or combo??!

Evan, if you ever have the urge to explore south of Owyhee - NE NV, Jarbidge, Wildhorse, etc. I'd be glad to do some wheelin' with ya. Some of our offroad club spent 5 days in Jarbidge a couple weeks ago; it was a hoot. Maybe you're already explored down here.

Heck yes. Weve been talking about making a jarbidge run.

Couple years ago we did some work in jarbidge.

Where are you located. My cousins live in elko so sometimes run down there to

Ive been thinking about getting a smaller trailer for the jeep just for jarbidge elko type trips.

Spring creek. I wonder if you know my cousins both have lived in spring creek or elko for the last 20years.

Shoeter.

I need to have a spare tire on me so the cage ish thing could happen soon ish.

Im so glad i never bought fenders theyd of never lasted. Fenders were a long project lots of work but so worth it.

If you were closer I'd definitely volunteer to bend and ruin tubes for you as i really suck at it.

Smaller trailer... good idea!

I pulled double in there from Rogerson with a 32' 5th wheel and a Yamaha Wolverine on a 2nd trailer (Aug. 12). Was coming back from Montana so didn't have time to go get the XJ. Was assured it 'would be fine'... NOT! White knuckles for 18 miles of single track dirt and didn't meet another rig... whew! I became an instant sensation when I pulled into Jarbidge.. had never been done..for good reason.
Had a buddy haul the Yamaha out in front of me with a 2-way radio to stop traffic coming up on the way out with me and the 5'er following. He had me pull over to let 2 service trucks and 2 semi/lowboys go by. I'd have been SCREWED without the escort.
Next trip will be the XJ on a trailer behind my pickup with camper shell and I'll have an SUV tent, sleep in the truck, cook in the tent.

Haha. Yeah we brought a excavator on a low boy in the otherr way. If you came in ovet the top i commend you. Wr came in on a skiff of snow and walked in. I wad following lowboy scooting it around a few corners.

I think wayvway comes out near Jordan Valley.

We come across the bombing range to get there

I took my Cummins over the top and came out some near elko ounce it was a dreadful trip. In a empty 1ton.

An empty 1 ton is kidney pain on a pothole filled road.... I can't imagine actual rough terrain....

Was fairly hard on it today and didnt break it.

Thanks.
Thats right here 20 minutes out of mtn home. The trail for the last 20years has been all but forgotten. Ive been building to be able to run it.
With both ends driving its gotten easy and has seen some steady utv traffic now that its washed out theres traffic turning around. I had to turn around due to upper side being washed out. Need to spend an hour with a pick and shovel to reclaim the trail.
Trail makes a 30 mile loop through public and accessible private land starts in the desert and climbs through pine trees marshes then back to desert. Can see the peak from my house when its not smoky.

We took both jeeps to the Owyhees today mostly dirt rd bombing exploring. Came across some bighorn sheep. Didnt see any horses.
We coverd about 150 miles 80 on pavement.

Rest of the pics are on my camera. The wj is doing well scott has ac i dont. Lol

Running dirt rds 30-60mph the wj brakes do work well. Steer is spot on and precise railing corners on the throttle hanging a tire in the ditch to maintain the line at speed under throttle

Ran the esab 235 to do this pretty good machine but i have lots more trigger time on my miller 235 and use that as an excuse for not laying down as nice a welds today.

The supplied hardware isnt long enough to bolt the badlands apex to 5/16 plate.

Finished product turned out well. High and tight just like i like to mount winches. Will have to watch temps pretty close. On mine the winch in front of the radiator isnt a issue but this is a 4.7 pos so may be effected much differently.

More comfortable, steers, drives, rides better. Has quadra track wich might be okay for living on the north pole. Not sure i like the quadatrack as a trail rig but its been doing fine as exsporing gravel roads kinda rig that may not need lookers and big tires.
The iron rock rock link works very well rides great blasting around exploring. ride is quite alot better than a bone stock xj.

I wouldnt see why a person would buy a xj when theres lots of wjs out there for all price points.
Does everything the xj does just better and more modern. Xj seems to have more aftermarket support though

I can see why.

It is all those blasted wires.

Got a '97 ZJ for The Varmints. I think the reason they were selling it cheap was largely because they couldn't figure out the parasitic draw that left them with a dead battery all the time. Varmint #1 and I traced it to a purple wire that we disconnected and found it takes out all the dome and instrument lights. I think the issue has something to do with a door sensor. At its root I believe it is tied in with the dome delay/BCM. IOW, some silly non-essential feature is taking out something that actually matters. The newer the vehicle the more features (read failure modes) and the more integrated they are (read more prone to doing even more damage when they fail).

I think the XJs hit a sweet spot for having the important things, but not the nonsense. It comes down to reliability. The XJ has it. The ZJ and WJ are just begging for more maintenance.
