I just got my new Stinkyfab Racing shackles and I thought I would give you guys a comparison to the Iron Rock off-road and a 5” Rubicon Express shackle I had laying around.

All 3 are 1/4” steel, but the SFR overall is bigger with the leaf ears and overall shackle being thicker. The 5" Rubicon Express shackle is pretty small, and does not have a boomerang angle.

The leaf ears and overall shackle being thicker. The round bushing bucket on the Stinkyfab shackle is 1/4” and the IRO one is 3/16.

You can see in the picture that the IRO shackle actually angles back after the cross brace, while the SFR one is straight, but achieves its boomerang kick back by the busing bucket being offset from the main body of the shackle vs the IRO one which is on the top.

I bent the crap out of my IRO shackle doing the Rubicon and Dusy Ershim last year. The SFR one looks beefier, I am hoping that the full body of the shackle being straight makes it stronger.

The length of the SFR from center of the bushing hole to the 2 leaf mounting holes is 5 1/2 and 6 1/2”, slightly longer than the IRO one which is 5” and 6”.

The IRO comes powder coated and the SFR comes as raw metal. The IRO shackles are $80.00 + shipping from Minnesota, SFR are $119, but ship from
San Diego. I live in California so shipping was a lot cheaper on the SFR shackle. I'll report back on how the SFR racing does once I get it mounted and bash it on some rocks!

Nice and informative post, thanks. Did you look at or do you have any opinion of the Boostwerks Engineering Comp Shackle? Just asking as I am considering running them. Thanks

I did briefly look at the boostwerks shackle, but didn't consider it. I really like the inherent anti-sway properties of a shackle/leaf setup in the rear. When I looked at the design of the boostwerks shackle with the flex joint it seemed like the abundance of lateral movement that the joint provides would eliminate the anti-sway ability that the traditional setup has. I don't have a lack of flex in my rear, so I didn't think giving up anti-sway was worth it.

ehall, Clayton always makes really good stuff as well! I haven't seen their shackles on a rig in person before, but knowing Clayton I would assume they are solid. They are a little pricy though at a $150.00.

Depends on if bushings have grease grooves. Though I'd imagine even with out grease grooves adding a zero and running some grease would be beneficial.

I'm not to worried about parts having a warranty in the offroad world specially a shackle that Im planning to drag over sharp idaho rocks.

I've been buying cheap bushings on ebay and havent got any without grease grooves yet.

Rusty's are insanely beefy, but not boomerang if that is needed.

Please explain when a boomerang shackle is needed. Is it for springs that are a bit longer than OEM? Is there a time when they should NOT be used (ex: my current OME 3.5")?I'm looking at Deaver 4" springs and they recommend a boomerang shackle. I'm pretty ignorant of the geometry back there. Enjoying this thread, tho'.

Edit: Hey lookie here https://www.quadratec.com/leaf-spring-shackles-explained I'll do some reading.
