"PayDay" my 2000 XJ Build

Installed some LED highlights today and my Thor cowl intake came in the mail.

Very happy with the look of these and satisfied with the brightness as well

that interior reminds me of my late little 97, same color but a better radio than mine. What did you end up doing with the donor ZJ body once you ripped it's guts out?? it was a lot like one i had years ago. Keep the great pics and progress coming.

Wired in an underhood light yesterday

Just connected the led light to the oem lightbulb posts and ran the wire through the box then dabbed the hole with some silicone.

Since the led light runs off that box it turns off when you shut the hood and vise versa.

Today I tore apart the interior to add led dash lights and prep the trim to paint it charcoal gray, dye the carpet and add some kilmat sound deadener

Sneak peek of the seats I found I'll post them when I get it all back together

So much heat gets radiated into the cabin from the firewall and floor all the way to the back of the vehicle. If you trying to reduce heat ingress, pile on the insulation in those locations.

I hate to ask but that ZJ was a 4x4 right and a 42re trans?? I really need a TCM for my 93 ZJ that has a glitch in the trans module. All 4x4 42re 4.0 ZJ's from 93-95 use a TCM that will work on mine, newer ZJ's it's part of the PCM.

Never mind, I just read where you said the donor is a 97. I already have a PCM and trans from a 97 I can't use yet cause i have no harness to retro my 93.

Love that underhood light, seriously impressive, want one.

& using the switch function of the factory one is inspired (even if I do struggle to get mine to work)
I cut the plug because I though the wiring was bad but it ended up just needing a few squirts of electrical cleaner in the plug so I wired it back in.

Not too worried about the heat but those are also the same places where road noise comes from so I'll be covering them up with the other half of the kilmat I have. I was just gonna do the roof and doors but it worked so well I'm gonna order more for the doors and use what I have left for under the carpet.

Looks good! I did something similar with led strips under the hood. I added a toggle switch instead of using the Mercury lamp setup. Also the sound deading is awesome. I did my roof and made a huge difference. Also did the the front doors and some of the hatch. I still need to get around to doing the rear doors.

I've taken apart the underhood light on 2 or 3 XJ's (& the very similar unit on a Seville STS) & cleaned them scrupulously but only managed to get them to work sometimes, before failing again & going thru' the whole performance another time - of course, after a while I gave up. The pathetic amount of light, even with an LED replacement for the bulb, just wasn't worth the aggravation.

Work on the jeep has still been slow but iv managed to get some more things done, at first I attempted to dye the carpet and it appeared it would have worked for the front piece but the rear wouldn't take the die at all so I ordered some new carpet and installed it.

I added some sound deadener on the bottom floor panels and the entire roof which made the roof much quieter. I still have noise from the doors that need deadened.

Redid the headliner with some fabric from the fabric store. I had to do it twice because I only applied the adhesion on one side instead of both

Then I pulled all the trim and painted it black

I used bedliner clear coat to give it a rough texture and add some strength to it and It turned out well

I used rit synthetic dye (don't use the normal one) dye to dye the seat belts.

Was finally able to get my shift knobs on

I still need to finish some stuff then I will post some better pictures with before and after side by sides but she finally had her maiden voyage and seen some dirt this week. The suspension and brakes are terribly blown but that's next on the list and I can call it ideal.

Thanks for the visual.
I kinda thought if I ever replaced the carpet in my '00 with a Camel interior might go with black too instead.
I always figured it would look fine but....
Now I know. LOL.

They're funky for sure I'm just using the sensor to turn the light on and off when I open the hood. That led strip I jist grabbed at Walmart surprisingly it lights it up well there's nothing I can't see on the top side down to the oil filter

Thanks man

The roof made the largest difference by far. It flickers when I open it but stays on fine when it's on the kickstand

but I could see wheeling being hard on it so a switch could be in the future

Impressive amount of refinishing. Looks like it turned out great.
Thank you man, it's been tedious but its starting to reap the benefits.

tomorrow I should done with the front doors. sound proofing, new speakers and amps are installed and I have 3 panels left to paint. I still haven't installed the 04 grand cherokee rear seats but kinda happy I didn't because it's going to be alot easier with having the sub box to hold them up while I align everything.

I'll be happy to be done with the interior lol
