Swapping in 8.8 into MJ

I searched! Everything for the 8.8 swap seemed to be for the XJ.

Im thinking of doing the 8.8 swap to get some added beef, solve my ds length problems, and maybe disk brakes?

Im sure I could get the rear end for cheap, but I have a few questions.

Where the MJ is spring under, is that going to cause me problems? I dont have a torch, or a welder that can weld to axle tubes.

I see my shopping list as being this so far

Brakes (Could possibly use whats there if its good)
New joints for driveshaft (might as well)
The axle
U-bolts

got friends with welders?

how about a co-worker?

jeep club?

going spring over will add about 5" to your lift...

staying spring under isnt a problem - infact the Explorer is spring under...

Uness the axle you're installing came from another MJ, there will be welding involved, as no other vehicle I know of has exactly the same pad width and distance between pads. It's simply a fact of life. I've heard of owners cutting off the old pads of the new axle, bolting everything together with the new pads, then SLOWLY driving to the shop down the street to have them weld the pads on. Not the best plan of action, but sometimes ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.
Jeep on!
