Front inner fender trimming

They're ordered, when I get them I'll send pics of the process. Just don't laugh at the welds!

Then this happened.... Dear lord is there a bunch of spot welds..... The new panels are substantially more ridgid than what is being cut out. Not that this is structural, but beefier is always better in my mind.

SlowXj, in the front I have the daystar extended upper bump stop and then I have 1 1/2 hockey pucks at the bottom. I am running the G2 Dana 44 in the front, and that is stock width. The 37's are mounted on Method 17x9 beadlocks with 3.5" backspacing.

So?

Sorry guys life happens and I haven't gotten to touch it since the above pictures. Hoping this weekend I can get it together.
I have a similar bump setup baja, daystar+1 puck. These 35s barely rub the coil tower at full flex with 3.75 backspacing.

Baja made a mention of this in his thred also, but just an FYI for everyone the driver's side hood spring does hit these inner fenders... I guess I'll hack a hole to clearance this.

Looking good SlowXJ! You are getting there! Soon you'll have the fun part of finding a place for all the stuff you need to relocate :p

Luckily I have a 96 sport so I believe all I have to account for is the battery, air box, pcm, and the hood lift spring... Their battery bracket looks simple enough to work and the thor intake fixes that... Just leaves the pcm and spring. Hopefully I can figure those out haha

Saweet!!

As for relocating stuff... duct tape? Lol

So what’s the big difference between your 96 and say my 97? The windshield washer fluid bottle? I thought the pcm was closer to the firewall too?

Good stuff man, might be going down that road soon myself. The amount of work however is pretty close to dove nose.. luckily I have a to-do list that’ll keep the sawzaw away from my front end at least until you finish yours. Hope the rest goes smooth boss

Drivers side mostly burnt in. The last picture shows my largest gasp in the whole job... Some time wire to help the mig fill it and we'll be good to go.

Anyone have thoughts on inner fender paint? When I did the rear cut and fold I used flat black covered with rust-oleum"pro" undercoating. It's held up well so far but wanted to here the opinions of the pros here.

I haven't done front fenders but I have done my rears. I brushed on a couple of coats of zinc oxide primer on the bare steel. I used fine abrasive paper to give every layer a good key. Then a few coats of some rattle can gloss whatever I had available. When dry another keying rubdown followed by a spray coat of adhesion enhancer before spraying over with black U-POL Raptor.

Well made more progress. I work like a snail! Haha everything has some kind of paint/undercoating on it haha hopefully I can get back in the garage soon to finish.

Finally back on this project... Idk if the 97+ have the battery temp sensor but my 96 does. Anyone have a thought on that placement? That's the last thing I have to mess with and I'm ready for a test ride.
