The music in a Bent mind

This song always makes me think of, "The Ballad of Reading Gaol (Jail)"; definitely one of my favorite poems. I have a rare version of the 1928 illustrated edition. Definitely checks the Art Deco box for me as well. I digress. TMI Tim?

In Rock there are countless covers over the years; Manfred Mann until Bruce "became a better writer". His words not mine. Then there's Foghat and Judas Priest, to name a few that most never knew were.

These two take the original and add a different perspective on the lyrics, not just change the tempo or instrumentation for the sake of a genre. The first takes the NIN version and flips it 180*. The second track is, in my opinion is an improvement on the original; treading on hollowed ground here, I don't think the original artists captured the ominousness of the message in the lyrics with their vocals.

Johnny Cash - "Hurt"

Disturbed "The Sound Of Silence"

I have this on CD, and until just now was not aware of this orchestrated live version.

Agree. Each of those covers exceed the originals by a long shot.

Here is another cover...Hahaha; you think?

Lots of rock Christmas songs out there. For me this is the gold standard.

In my minds eye I just can't see the boy having much polish to his performance; just banging it out with all he's got. That's what I like about Joan's rendition.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - "Little Drummer Boy"

And If you prefer the Live version; definitely less polished::cheers:

Joan Jett - "Little Drummer Boy" LIVE

The Jury's still out for me.

Merry Christmas all!
