D30 outer stub flange - critical?

Title says most of it. I and my son are replacing the thrashed ujoint on his 97 XJ D30 front axle passenger side shaft. It's been a bear. In so doing we mangled the outer stub flange that lies against the hub bearing (in truth it was mostly rusted to crap before we got it).

Is the part critical? He won't be doing much if any mud or crawling as this is his way to work and school.

Thanks!

Guess it depends on what you mean by 'mangled'.
Any photos?

It was FUBAR, and cracked, so now lives in the trash.

OK so it's much like the brake disk shield, which I automatically throw in the round file. Great!
