Mid-241or swap

im swapping a rock trac in place of a 231 in my 94 xj. i believe the speedos are both 3 wire. is it possible to simply splice the wires or do i need the expensive adapter that someone makes. If splicing these is not possible could someone tell me what company makes the adapter. i searched but i couldnt find the name of the company.
