Ok. so im kinda stuck in a corner here.
pulled the AW4 from my '90, and it started and ran up until the moment i removed the tranny.
i just got finished putting the replacement in, now she just turns over.
I KNOW im missing something simple.
NSS plugged in.
speed sensor plugged in.
kickdown cable attached.
what am i missing?
Throw me a bone!!!

If the replacement was from a later year, you will need the original flexplate in order for the CPS to be able to read it.

same year. came from a xj and went into an mj of the same year.
iirc the flexplates were the same.
but the CPS reads from the teeth on the flywheel, right?
my 3/8 air wrench died, or i would have just replaced it, but i'll settle for checking it in a min.
should read 200+_75 ohms im told.

I don't think CPS reads the teeth, but the ring on the flexplate that is about an inch inside the outer diameter. It has holes like windows in it, and I think about every 1/4 of that part of the flexplate, the holes are larger than the rest. Im no expert, but thats what I think
