2000 2wd limited, ac will run fine and then stop blowing cold . I can toggle the switch to max to normal and it comes back on , sometimes instantly sometimes it takes 10 minutes. System is fully charged and seems to only do it in traffic?

So, either the compressor is shutting down from the high pressure switch, or you have evaporator freeze up. Some vehicles are just prone to that (Evap freeze up) in high humidity air. When this happens, the water that the evaporator takes out of the air freezes on the evaporator face and basically forms a block of ice. If the inlet tube to the evap (under the hood) is still cold and frosty, this is what has happened. Things you can do to decrease the likelihood of this freeze-up are: keep the windows fully closed when running AC (don't let in more humid air), keep the fan speed up even if it gets cold and turn the temp up higher if it's too cold (maintain airflow over the evap), and use max. AC to recirculate air that has already been dehumidified instead of letting it use the outside air with more humidity. If, however, when it gets warm air, you check the AC inlet line under the hood and it is not cold anymore, then the compressor has stopped running. That is different than the freeze up issue.
