I converted over to a 4-Bolt, fixed ratio, YJ steering box on Friday and I LOVE IT!!! It takes absolutly no effort whatsoever to turn the wheel with 35's on pavement while parked. Went snowbashing on Saturday and I was aired down to 8 psi and it still took almost no effort at all to turn the wheel sitting in the parking lot across from the trailhead. I looking forward to trying it out in the rocks!

Some pics of course.

More info please

1. How long did it take to swap?
2. What kit did you use?
3. Did you buy the steering box new or used?
4. Any special hoses etc for the swap?
5. Cost (if you don't mind charing)?

Sorry I forgot to include more info. This should answer your questions.

1. It took a couple hours.
2. It's the Treks kit.
3. Good used box (100.00, although I chatted with a guy who said he found one for 75.00)
4. All factory XJ hoses are used.
5. $275.00 or so when it was all said and done (parts, hole saw, etc)

what was Jeep's reasoning for a variable ratio box? Does it give better road manners or what?
Just a cost cutting thing?
