Hardcore cooler needed

I need a heavy duty cooler, that can be used, abused, thrown around, ratcyhet strapped down by its handles, have the jeep roll, and the lid stay shut, and all my 'beverages' stay inside it...

The handles and latch are the critical part for me...

Something like this - but with better handles - I can see the case warping over time...

I dont want anything plug in, or heavy...

Currently, I use a crappy cooler that I have to ratchet down over the lid, and it works, but its annoying to take the strap off every time...

One thought is to find an used military surplus rocket box, and find a cooler that fits that box, and just have 2 lids... that seems a little heavy though...

What does everyone else do?

I put my cold stuff in someone elses ice chest.

When I run out of beer, it takes them a while to notice i'm drinking theirs.

It doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to add a good quality latch and handles to any old cooler.
I know you'd rather just

, but come on!

soft side cooler. Some are pansy, but some are really high quality.

Tie it down by the handles. I doubt the zipper would come undone accidentally.

The better ones are also as well insulated as a hard cooler.

Check army surplus. We have one that makes these other ones look like toys. And with about two inches of insulation all around, it keeps stuff cold a long time. It seals so good that it floats if your canoe tips over, or your Jeep gets too deep in the puddle. I think it was from WWII. It's olive green too. Has 3 cannisters inside to keep things sorted out. Hate to have your beer fall out if you roll over!

HOLY SHIt -- I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $160. http://cgi.ebay.com/Army-Green-Meta...t--Cooler_W0QQitemZ310087891144QQcmdZViewItem

Damn!! that is nice!...

only one problem -
17" X 12" X 6 1/2" inches.

the coke can on my desk measures 4.875 tall and ~ 2.75" DIA.

thats 4 across, and 6 down... and very little room for ice...

that'd work good for a day trip, but I'm looking for a cooler big enough to throw some food in as well - burritos, hash browns, eggs, cheese, burgers...

do you know if there was different sizes made? I'll poke around a bit.

same thing, $110 cheaper, better pictures -

i have the older version of that coleman cooler you first posted about.
the one from the mid eighties.
its never warped, a little rust due to my lack of care for it, but it is still my best cooler hands down, the most durable in my family, passed down from the pops, of course 200$ aint cheap....
you could build a nice metal shell and handles for a cheap cooler?

Nobody has mentioned arb fridges, heard a lot about them, the best I hear but just word of mouth

mermite food containers.
They are a little small, but I like them.
Best price I could find was $60
