Government causes symptoms, then provides a tax-payer funded "cure"

What I want to know is, "Why does this surprise you?"

Since the 1950's or so, politicians have secured careers for themselves by "finding" (read: causing) problems and then "fixing" (read: not doing a damned thing useful) them.

Small problems just don't do it anymore for them. And, this is definitely a case where the best thing that could have been done was to do nothing - as it would either have solved itself (in a truly free market,) or it would have shown people we do not have a truly free market, and cause reform from the bottom up.

Either is better than pumping a trillion fictitious dollars into the system, devaluing the currency and making the problem worse.

Someone's sig I saw recently said something to the effect of the current "economic fix" being akin to saying that "despite repeated blows to the head, the patient failed to regain consciousness." Accurate sentiment, methinks.
