I was replacing my brakes and I was doing a visible inspection of the u-joints.
When I rotated the hub, the shaft spun (of course), but there was about 1/4"-1/2" of play before I could hear it engage in the diff.
And If I rotated back and forth kind of quickly, I could hear it clanking inside the diff. I thought it was the u-joints being bad, but the axle shaft and stub shaft rotate at the same speed and there is no perceptible play between the two.
Does that make sense?
