Dana 30 Disconnect axle with a C-Clip

My Dana 30 disconnect has a c clip on the intermidiate shaft on the passenger side. It is my understanding that later ones did not have this c clip. Is there any reason I cannot take the clip out and allow it to float? The outer axle is bolted in so it would hold everything in wouldn't it?

It won't affect a thing.

After installing my front locker, I didn't put the C-clip back in. Like you said the outer shaft is bolted in, so the intermediate shaft has nowhere to go.

Sweet! I just hate having that thing c-clipped in.
