Fender flare question??

Well i took my front fender flares off of my 98 xj, it was really easy taking them off, but it has been a nightmare getting them back on, nothing is broken or anything, but i cannot seem to get them on can someone please help!!Oh and i took them off to paint them flat black.

Adjust the metal brackets so they stay clipped onto the fender flare in the correct locations. Put all the brackets on the flare, and put the whole fender flare assembly on the fender. Having a helper will make it easier.
