Leaky Tranny - Need Help!

1986 Cherokee, 2.8L engine, 904 or 727 tranny

I bought this Cherokee with a leak coming from the bellhousing. Pulled the trans & replaced the circular front seal, reinstalled the tranny & it leaked WORSE. I just pulled the tranny again last night & the seal looked just fine. Is the leak coming from somewhere else???

No auto parts stores know anything about these old jeeps & my haynes/chiltons/etc books aren't any help on these setups either. HALP!

If that is the tranny you have, check the shift shaft seal. Common leak.

how/where??? do you have info or a link you can share?
I know nothing about transmissions...

There are many these kinds of treads in SEARCH
But to find info about 904 and 727 trannies is difficult. I googled, but without succes. But seals are seals aren't they?
