91 Jeep Cherokee engine transplant?

Hello everyone.I have a quick question. I need to replace the 4.0 in my 91
Cherokee. The engine rattles and knocks, does not smoke though.
I would like to know, will a 4.0 engine from a 92 Cherokee
work.
I have located a 4.0 out of a 92 Jeep, but the people I am
dealing with do not seem to think the 92 engine will work in my 91?

i beleve so but why does the engine knock and rattle. is the waterpump making noise. thats what happened to mine.
