Have you guys seen this yet? It made the rounds through email at the office today. I was shocked.

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...
A billion dollars...
A hundred billion dollars...
Eight hundred billion dollars...
One TRILLION dollars...
What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.
We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing about so much. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?
It's pretty surprising.
Go ahead...
Scroll down...
Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars..

(And notice those pallets are double stacked.)
So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.

Hmm, if they handed that $1tril out to taxpayers, how many plastic bags do I get to carry. I'll be satisfied with 1.

holy shit, good lord.

Socialism sucks

Socialism would have given you, and me, and our brothers, and our neighbors, and their brothers and all of us the money....NOT to the banking industry.

Giving each of us whom populated the US $260 (roughly the equivalent of $780B) would have done more to stimulate the economy than providing the same bailout to the banks.

and yes I was in favor of bailing out the banks in October.

-whistle

I'd need several dozen C-5 Galaxys to fly that to my secret hideout.

You mean like last year when they gave us $600? ;)

The problem was people didn't go out and spend it. If they are going to give out that money thy should do it in a way theat it will expire so it's use it or lose it. Maybe something like a pre payed Visa/Mastercard.

Everyone *I* Know spent it right away.

My $600 is bolted to the jeep.

Really, that's how you're representing Socialism? Ignorance really is bliss.......

my bailout has been spent for a while now... i used my bailout to pay back my credit card...

besides they act like giving us this money is going to help the economy... 600 dollars isnt even going to buy my car a set of tires, it isnt even a 40 hour work week pay check... honestly to most people 600 dollar is a drop in their bucket of debt.

The point of the first bail out wasn't to pay down people's debt. It was intended for us to spend it. People of course are/were free to use it as they see fit but the spirit of it was to spend it. Ironically 90% of the stuff people would buy would just go to another country but at least we get the sales tax.

Mine paid down credit cards from when I was unemployed.

I stimulated the economy before the check arrived, then used the stimulus to pay the bill :D
