Keyless Entry 99 XJ

I bought a 99 cherokee sport recently and the guy said the keyless entry remote just needed a battery. I replaced the battery and the remote still did not lock/unlock the doors. the panic button doesnt do anything either. Any suggestions on where to look?

My key fob stopped working and I thought it was the batteries, so I replaced them, and that didn't fix it. So I bought a new key fob thinking I would have it reprogrammed, but I switched the rubber material in between the buttons and the PCB and then it started working. Your rubber may be worn out!

The rubber wasnt the prob. any other suggestions?

yay i fixed it. turns out the meatal contact that touches the battery wasnt touching the board. i just bent the metal tab up a lil a wala!!!
