when i take my 2000 XJ on the highway its got a pretty good wobble up front from 65pmh and up, steering wheel shakes also. fine under 65 mph.

had tires rotated and balanced, they're ok.

could worn out u joints (driveshaft or wheel) throw off your ride?
is this common?

looking for somewhere to start on this.
the vibration is pretty bad in the cab, the wheel shakes pretty good.

took the jeep into the shop for rear wheel cylinder replacement and when i got it back i noticed this....wierd (might have nothing to do with it)
mechanic mentioned front u joints.

somebody on this forum also mentioned steering dampener?

Usually, the suspect would be tires, but you rotated yours and the vibration did not move. Another suspect for high speed vibes would be out of balance driveshaft. You are not raised, are you? You could try pulling the front driveshaft off and see what happens. I assume you have removed all the play from your steering linkage. Have you checked that stuff?

I have a vibration from 65-75mph after that it smooths out which is probably unbalanced tires...but I did notice my back left has a massive amount of wheel weights so I might have a bent rim...does yours quit shaking once you get to a higher speed?

don't recall ever hitting anything hard but i will check out the rims.

if i wanted to have someone look at it would it be best to take to an old-school mom and pop alignment place?

I would recommend evaluating this as if it were true DW. I suspect it may become this in the near future, if not addressed fairly quickly.

DW at highway speeds is not something you want to experience . Actually true DW even at 30 MPH is horrifying :scared:.

Search for DW (Death Wobble). Sadly there is a very wide range of things that can cause front end shimmies.

This is probably somewhat of what you have now (this is a shimmy not DW)

Here's slow speed DW

Here's what it can do to bike, with a similar end results to a car/truck.

Hope this helps,
