I haven't done this on my Jeep, but the manual says to remove the inner splash shield, not the fender. And of course you need to get the antenna wire pulled out of the radio.
Below the glove box behind the kick panel is a connection in the antenna lead. Caution it is fragile, be gentle. Be sure it's secure, they sometimes disconnect-this makes one band on the radio weak and the other gone. (May have to secure it with zipties)
